About Kate Pankhurst

"Embroidery had stitched up my heart, and I felt so strongly that I had been led to take this path to which nothing else compared. " Kate Pankhurst

After many years as an Art Director working in publishing, Kate wanted to pursue an art form full of integrity and creativity. The discovery of the Royal School of Needlework and hand embroidery delivered on that desire. Kate graduated from the RSN Future Tutors Programme (Professional Embroiderer course) in 2021, gaining a Distinction.  Her embroidery talent on the course was recognised and supported by The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust.

Throughout the Future Tutors Programme, Kate assisted and taught classes for the RSN online and onsite, at the London Knitting & Stitching Show and on the Certificate & Diploma Summer Intensives. Since graduating, this tuition continues with the creation of her own kits for teaching in person and online.

Kate is delighted to have been recognised for multiple embroidery awards in the last few years, including First Prize at the prestigious Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery. You can see the list of awards and recognitions here, (or click the image above.)

Kate has been invited on multiple guest speaker appearances to embroidery groups, and a live YouTube broadcast from the Hand & Lock atelier. She has also taught her kits on private embroidery retreats

In 2023, Kate was honoured to be part of the Embroidery Studio team at the Royal School of Needlework who worked on a number of items for the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, including The Queen’s Robe of Estate and the Anointing Screen
