Lockdown O' Clock

Lockdown O’Clock expresses the passage of time in lockdown. The perception of it becomes relative as the hectic pace of the twenty-first century diurnal gives way to the slow and the seasonal.

As if Janus was in charge, the duality of experience is acute. Time flies, yet is marked by the analogue slowness of the moon, and plants growing from bare buds to ripening fruit. Our world shrinks to a view from a London flat. Finally, there is time to see the beauty in the ordinary: an unremarkable church steeple, the flight of pigeons, a grapevine growing in a pot.

The clock front is a graphic representation of night and time, while the rear is a daytime view of my urban skyline from the confinement of home. All is raised from the dull to the sublime by the flight of wings.

When scanned, the embroidered QR code swing ticket links to a three-minute film made during lockdown. It features life at home, my online communities, and follows the creation of ‘Lockdown O’Clock’. Although beginning in fear and uncertainty, it evokes a simple sense of love, humour, gratitude and hope.
